Ocean Revival was born in 2019 from Matt Mason’s bold vision to accomplish a world-first: rowing an unsupported route from New York to London across the perilous North Atlantic Ocean. What began as a daring mission has now evolved into a platform for ocean exploration, resilience, and environmental advocacy.

Christian is no stranger to extreme environments. A former Royal Marines Commando, deep-sea commercial diver, and now a submarine recovery expert, he’s built a career — and a life — around operating in some of the world’s most challenging conditions.
An accomplished ocean rower, Christian first crossed the Atlantic alongside his brother Matt, before taking on the notoriously unforgiving Indian Ocean in 2023, rowing from Australia to Mauritius. Now based in Perth, Australia, Christian brings not only technical expertise but also calm, tested leadership to every expedition he joins.

Hailing from St Helens in the North West, Matt is back with us for another ocean adventure and with three ocean rows under his belt—including two Atlantic crossings and the Arctic in 2023 as part of the Ocean Revival team—Matt brings invaluable experience and a steady, determined mindset to the team.
This will be his 4th ocean row, and we’re thrilled to have him onboard as we gear up to tackle the mighty Indian Ocean together.

Matt is a former Royal Marines Commando with a background in amphibious operations, having specialised as a coxswain for Commando Landing Craft.
He first took to ocean rowing with his brother Christian, crossing the Atlantic as a pair in a classic-style rowing boat — an expedition marked by relentless challenges and technical setbacks that tested both skill and resilience. Now based in Australia and working as an IT consultant, Matt continues to balance his professional life with a passion for adventure, regularly diving, dirt biking, and pushing the limits of what’s possible.

Meet the unstoppable skipper of our Southern Ocean row, Matt Mason, whose already conquered five oceans—four of them as skipper of Ocean Revival Expeditions—including the Mid Atlantic (2014), the North Atlantic (2021), the Arctic (2023), the Pacific (2024) and Indian in 2025.
